🏠 Safety & family

Yes — and this is one of the things that makes Orange Guard genuinely different. The active ingredient, d-Limonene, is on the FDA's GRAS list (Generally Regarded As Safe). That means it's food-grade and can be sprayed in your pantry, under your cabinets, around your appliances, and along your countertops without worry.

d-Limonene is also FQPA exempt — meaning it's specifically cleared by the Food Quality Protection Act for use in food-handling and food-prep areas. Just let it dry before putting food back.

Yes, when used as directed on the label, Orange Guard may be used around food, humans, and pets. The formula is water-based, 100% biodegradable, and contains no synthetic chemicals or nerve agents.

We do recommend keeping pets out of treated areas while the spray is still wet, and allowing it to fully dry before letting them back into the space. Tor invented this product because he wanted something all-natural enough to use in his own home around his own family and pets.

Yes. The active ingredient is d-Limonene — the natural oil found in the rind of citrus fruit, steam-distilled from orange peels. It makes up 5.8% of the formula. The remaining 94.2% is inert ingredients, all water-based.

Every ingredient in Orange Guard is on the FDA's GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) list. The formula is 100% water-based and fully biodegradable. No synthetic chemicals. No petroleum-based solvents. No nerve agents.

It smells like fresh oranges — which most people actually love. The scent is noticeable right after application but typically dissipates within a few hours indoors.

Importantly, the repelling effect continues long after the scent fades. The residual action of d-Limonene keeps insects away for weeks, even after you can no longer smell it.

🍊 How it works

Home Pest Control kills and repels ants, cockroaches, fleas, silverfish, palmettos, and other common household insects — on contact — indoors and outdoors.

Fire Ant Control eradicates fire ant mounds and colonies. Registered in 16 fire ant states.

Ornamental & Garden protects plants from aphids, whiteflies, mites, lace bugs, leafhoppers, mealybugs, scale insects, planthoppers, and adelgids.

d-Limonene works through a physical mechanism, not a chemical one — which is why it's so different from conventional pesticides.

  • Contact kill: It dissolves the waxy coating on an insect's exoskeleton the moment it makes contact, breaking down their protective layer.
  • Suffocation: It clogs the spiracles — the tiny breathing pores insects use to take in oxygen — causing suffocation.
  • Residual repelling: After the initial kill, it continues working as a residual repellent for weeks before fully biodegrading.

No nervous system disruption. No synthetic toxins. No harsh residue left behind.

Orange Guard works as both a contact insecticide and a residual repellent. After the initial kill, it keeps repelling insects for several weeks before fully biodegrading.

For best results, reapply every 4–6 weeks or after heavy rain for outdoor use. The fresh orange scent fades within a few hours but the repelling effect continues well after that.

Most conventional pest control products work by attacking an insect's nervous system using synthetic chemicals. Orange Guard works differently — d-Limonene is a physical mechanism, not a chemical one.

That's why it's EPA registered, OMRI certified for organic use, and food-grade enough to spray in a kitchen. There are no synthetic chemicals, no harsh residues, and no compromises.

But beyond the science, there's a simpler reason: Orange Guard was invented by a father who didn't want chemicals around his family. It's been made in California for over 30 years by the same family who created it. You're not buying a product from a faceless corporation — you're buying something a real family stands behind.

🌿 Using Orange Guard

Absolutely. The Home Pest Control can be sprayed around the perimeter of your home, along doorways, window frames, and any cracks or entry points. It's excellent for creating a barrier that keeps insects from entering.

For gardens, the Ornamental & Garden product is specifically designed to protect plants from aphids, whiteflies, mites, and other garden pests. Unlike conventional pesticides, it actually attracts pollinators rather than harming them — and it's OMRI certified for use in organic production.

Home Pest Control (32oz spray & 1 gallon): Ready to use — no dilution needed. Spray directly.

Fire Ant Control: Dilute one part Orange Guard with three parts water before use.

Ornamental & Garden Concentrate: Dilute one part Orange Guard with six parts water for standard use. For very delicate plants, increase to 1:8.

Use the Fire Ant Control product, diluted 1 part Orange Guard to 3 parts water. Puncture the mound with a stick to open channels into the colony, then pour the solution in generously until the queen is covered and the mound is saturated.

For best results, treat in the early morning or late evening when fire ants are less active and closer to the surface. Orange Guard Fire Ant Control is registered in 16 fire ant states and does not damage grass, surrounding plants, or the food chain.

Yes. The Home Pest Control can be applied to pet bedding to control fleas. Allow it to dry fully before your pet returns to the area. It keeps repelling for weeks after application.

Orange Guard may be used around pets when used as directed. Keep pets out of treated areas while the spray is still wet.

Yes — it kills on contact. Spray directly onto insects using the stream setting for the most direct application. It works immediately on contact. You can also use it preventatively by spraying entry points, cracks, and crevices before you see bugs.

No. The formula Tor invented in the early 1990s is the same formula in every bottle today. Same active ingredient, same concentration, same water-based approach. The only thing that changed in 2026 was the label — the brand's first ever redesign in over 30 years.
